Due to the current Coronavirus outbreak in the UK, many businesses are having to place their employees on furlough leave. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is part of a series of measures introduced by the Government to protect the economy.
Government Encourages Training
Providing training during furlough is encouraged in the latest guidelines produced by the UK Government.
The most recent Government guidelines state:
“Furloughed employees can engage in training, as long as in undertaking the training the employee does not provide services to, or generate revenue for, or on behalf of their organisation or a linked or associated organisation. Furloughed employees should be encouraged to undertake training.”
You can read the guidelines here
Employees should make themselves available to complete training as requested by their employer.
